May 2004
Dear friends

Having just come through Easter when we commemorated the passion, death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus, we now begin to focus on May 30th, Pentecost Sunday.

This is the day we often call the birthday of the Church and this year we will be commemorating it with a March of Witness on Saturday March 29th. After all we are always delighted to have a party when a child is born or when a family member celebrates a birthday; why not when the Church celebrates its birthday. And not only will it be a march of witness but it will also be a time of worship with other Churches, members of our family.

What a glorious thing to do, and what a wonderful way to show the world that the Church is alive and well. I do hope that as many of you will be able to gather as possible on Heanor Market Place at 10.00 a.m.

We remember how on the day of Pentecost the Holy Spirit came and filled the disciples giving them courage to break out of the room where they were hiding and speak boldly about Jesus. Let us pray that on the 29th the Holy Spirit will so fill us that we too will be able to "burst" out of our Churches and proclaim that Jesus is Lord.

Pentecost was a day of transformation, and we are all going through changes; some we like and others we don't. In our churches change brings difficulties, uncertainty, and apprehension. As a Methodist Circuit we are also going through change as Trevor and myself prepare to leave. But change also brings excitement and the promise of a new future, and Pentecost is a reminder that when God changes things it is always for the better. Please pray for Rev. Tony de Boltz his wife Fiona and daughter, Sam as they prepare to join the circuit as the new Superintendent. Please also pray for Rev. Wesley Blakey (Chairman of District) as he continues to try and find a replacement for me.

Above all else, remember that when the disciples waited upon God He came, in His own time, and He came with great power. Friends, the best is yet to be!!
